As a headphone enthusiast and parent, my toddler has taken quite an interest in listening to music. He loves throwing on headphones and listening to his favorite playlist.

One thing that I’m always worried about is volume. He likes knobs and mashing buttons, risking his currently-perfect hearing in the process if he happens to turn the volume up too high. On top of that, I have some pretty fancy headphones, and he’s not exactly delicate with anything at all.

If only someone could solve my problems… Enter Brainwavz Kidwavz headphones.

    Brainwavz Kidwavz Impressions

They’re a durable, attractive little headphone designed specifically for my situation! The most important feature, in my opinion, is that they are limited to 85dB volume in Bluetooth mode. No risk of my son damaging his hearing.

They can be used wirelessly with pretty much anything that supports Blueooth mode (Android, iPhone, tablets, computers, you name it). Controls on the cups allow you to change the volume, switch tracks, and even answer calls on the integrated microphone.

They’re cute little cans, and he loves them. They come in blue, pink, and black. What about the sound? Well, there’s audio. It’s good enough for my kid to enjoy it, and that’s exactly what matters. Am I going to listen to them when I have balanced Sennheiser HD650s, AudioQuest Nighthawks, and JVC HA-DX2000s available to me? Of course not. That’s not the point.

The sound is inoffensive. The volume limiter works. He can use them without wires and wander around the house while grooving to music. He can throw them around without them breaking.

They’re awesome. They solve a real problem, and do it well.

Negatives? Just one. When plugged into the source, the volume limiter does not function. It must be in Bluetooth mode to limit volume. This has turned out to be less of an issue than I was worried about, because they work for several hours per charge. He prefers to be unfettered anyway, so the Kidwavz are always run in Bluetooth mode.

I won’t rate these the way I traditionally rate headphones in a review. That’s not what they’re for. They are designed to fill a very specific niche, and they fill it perfectly.

If you have a child who uses headphones, get Kidwavz. It’s a small investment to protect their hearing while giving them an attractive headphone that they’ll certainly enjoy calling their own.
